Manufacturing Engineer – Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to provide engineering expertise for engine assembly and related manufacturing processes. As part of Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division, you will ensure cost-effective production, implement lean systems, and deliver assembly solutions that meet global quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a technical specialist in engine assembly processes, tooling, paint processing, and layouts.
- Prepare feasibility studies, cost justification, and project recommendations.
- Design, develop, and implement jigs, fixtures, gauges, and special assembly tools.
- Support Concurrent Process and Product Development (CPPD) and NPI programs.
- Conduct factory layout planning for better space utilisation and new process integration.
- Lead cost reduction initiatives aligned with Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Oversee assembly process transition from engineering design to production.
- Analyse, troubleshoot, and improve tooling failures and assembly bottlenecks.
- Provide technical support for process control, internal certifications, and inspections.
- Prepare process documentation such as Assembly Procedures, BOMs, Process Flows, FMEAs.
- Use CREO, AutoCAD, Teamcenter, and SAP MES for design and process planning.
- Manage manufacturing projects, ensuring safety, ergonomics, and quality targets are achieved.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Post Diploma in Tool Design.
- 5–8 years of experience in manufacturing engineering including NPI exposure.
- Proven expertise in Tool Design (Jigs, Fixtures, Gauges).
- Proficiency in CREO, AutoCAD and CAD-based simulations.
- Strong multitasking and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with leadership ability.
- Proficient in data collection, RCA, SAP ERP, and MS Office tools.
- Knowledge of engine assembly processes will be an added advantage.
Desired Qualifications
- MS, MBA, or an advanced technical degree.
- Experience in automation, robotics, and special purpose machines.
- Hands-on knowledge of Leak test tools, Torque tools, PLCs, and Electrical Controls.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Industry 4.0 concepts.
- Familiarity with Discrete Event Simulation (DES) and IoT-driven engineering systems.
- Successful track record in launching automotive/engine assembly projects.
