We are specifically looking for an experienced Construction Engineer – Civil to strengthen our CHO Projects Civil team. This role is critical in ensuring the safe and efficient execution of construction activities, complying with specifications, drawings, and project standards.

Position Overview

The Construction Engineer – Civil (CHO Projects) will be responsible for a wide range of field execution activities including grading, land development, soil management, concreting, formwork, rebar inspections, fireproofing, and contractor performance monitoring. The candidate will also act as a key interface between contractors and project control teams, ensuring smooth communication, timely reporting, quality assurance, and strict adherence to safety norms.

This role is based in Jamnagar, a vibrant and dynamic industrial hub, and will primarily focus on refinery and petrochemical-related civil projects. The position requires deep technical knowledge, sound practical judgment, and demonstrated experience in similar project environments.

Key Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Construction Engineer – Civil shall include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Site Preparation and Area Development:
    • Carry out area grading and land development activities.
    • Study plot plans, layout drawings, and implement them in the field with accuracy.
    • Coordinate with surveyors to establish plot boundaries and initial reduced levels (RL) for the site.
    • Calculate and supervise cutting and filling quantities to ensure levelling accuracy.
  • Soil and Geotechnical Work:
    • Collect and send soil samples for laboratory testing including Optimum Moisture Content (OMC) and Maximum Dry Density (MDD).
    • Conduct and supervise regular field compaction tests to ensure adherence to compaction standards.
    • Monitor quality of filling layers and level accuracy during cutting/filling operations.
  • Contractor Coordination and Resource Utilisation:
    • Monitor optimal utilisation of contractor resources, including plants, machinery, and manpower.
    • Highlight any deficiencies in mobilisation of resources and escalate to immediate superiors.
    • Verify and certify contractors’ Daily Progress Reports (DPR).
    • Update the project control team regularly with progress reports and key observations.
  • Structural Works and Reinforcement:
    • Verify the correctness of rebar bending in the storage yard.
    • Certify Bar Bending Schedules (BBS).
    • Ensure binding of reinforcement and installation of formwork is done as per drawings.
    • Monitor quality of rebar placement including clear covers, spacing, lap lengths, and hooks.
  • Safety Compliance and Work-at-Height Supervision:
    • Supervise scaffolding, staging, handrail installations, and ladder fixes for safety compliance.
    • Ensure that Risk Assessment (RA) sheets are properly filled up, executed, and signed off.
  • Concreting and Finishing Works:
    • Ensure proper compaction during concreting along with field quality testing.
    • Oversee cube samples collection for compressive strength testing.
    • Supervise curing activity and check finishing quality.
    • Inspect embedded items such as anchor bolts and insert plates to ensure positioning and welding are correctly done.
    • Monitor fireproofing surface quality and application methodology.
    • Check rendering and concrete finishing for smoothness and durability.
  • Backfilling and Utility Coordination:
    • Supervise backfilling works with proper compaction and ensure approved material is used.
    • Verify curing works to enhance durability and long-term strength.
  • Adherence to Standards and Specifications:
    • Ensure all construction activities comply with approved project standards, drawings, and technical specifications.
    • Work closely with quality control and safety teams for compliance inspections and approvals.
